Streacom F1C EVO Mini Home Theatre Aluminium Chassis
- Replaces the Streacom F1C Series Home Theatre Aluminium ChassisMeasuring only 197 x 197 x 75mm, Streacom's new F1C EVO is the perfect Home Theatre PC chassis if space is a premium or minimal looks are preferred.
Features
- Air cooled mini HTPC chassis
- 100% aluminium with brushed finish
- Ideal for media centre system
- Compatible with Mini ITX motherboards
Streacom's F1C EVO is the smallest chassis we offer. It will look great in any audio visual system or home theatre, due to being made entirely from aluminium. The surface is sand-blasted and treated with anodic oxidation which prevents any unsightly finger-prints from ruining the look of the case.
The F1C EVO can accommodate a slim slot-loading optical drive and three 2.5" hard drive/SSD's, whereas the F1C EVO WS has no optical drive slot, therefore it can accommodate either three 2.5" hard drive/SSD's or one 3.5" hard drive and one 2.5" hard drive/SSD. Although it belongs to the mini-series family, the powerful storage options available make these cases more convenient and useful. With its gorgeous looks and generous specifications, the F1C EVO is a great Mini-ITX chassis.
Recommended Components
Streacom has a comprehensive build guide that provides general tips and suggestions on what should be considered when building in a Streacom case and how to achieve the best results.
Motherboard and CPU - The F1C EVO is only compatible with Mini ITX motherboards. Due to the fact that the chassis is air cooled, there are no limitations regarding the TDP of the chosen CPU. The only issue to consider is the size of the CPU cooler which may dictate the CPU to use. Due to the size of the chassis, it is only possible to install a CPU cooler no taller than 34mm. The Gelid Silence iPlus for Intel and the Slim Silence A-PLUS for AMD are CPU coolers that will fit the chassis; both available from Quiet PC.
Power Supply - We recommend using a fanless nanoPSU which can provide up to 150W of power. This is more than enough to power a CPU that has a TDP of around 65W along with suitable peripherals. It is recommended not to overload the number of peripherals; two HDDs (or one SSD and one HDD), one optical drive, a TV tuner and obviously a motherboard should not be a problem for this miniature PSU.
Optical Drive - The F1C EVO uses a new universal eject mechanism, so it will work with any slot loading laptop type of drive regardless of where the eject button is located on the front of the drive. Streacom have already sourced the perfect drives for these cases, whether you require a Blu-Ray or a DVD player. Please be aware that the F1C EVO WS does not have an optical drive slot.
Remote Control - If you are looking to take control of the PC with the use of a remote control, then look no further than Streacom's Flirc. It is supplied with a PCB that fits neatly behind a small circular window in the F1C. This means there are no unsightly boxes or wires running out from ports.

Quiet - but don't push it
I bought this case thinking it would be an unobtrusive HTPC if partnered with a Core i3 2100T and Gelid Silence iPlus (one of two recommended low profile CPU coolers). The resting fan speed is about 1500RPM and you can't hear it but put the machine under stress (1080p decoding for example) and the noise becomes distracting. By removing the optical drive and mounting the hard drive sideways I've been able to increase the airflow by freeing up space above the cooler but the fan still kicks in sometimes.
Can't complain though, the case makes no claims to be silent.
Take care...
This is a nice chassis, but its utility is compromised by the poor market availability of slim slot-loading DVD rewriters. The writers which have previously been recommended and sold by QuietPC are now end-of-life and it seems that no substitute DVD drivers are being suggested or stocked by this retailer.
Thanks for your comments Paul. You're right in saying that slot-load DVD rewriters have been hard to source recently. However, we have recently located some stock of the Sony AD-7640S so we will have plenty of those available again soon.
