“I purchased this Thermolab Trinity cpu cooler to replace the Intel cpu cooler supplied with an Intel Pentium D processor 830 3 GHz LGA775.

The problem with the Intel cooler was that it was just so noisy - it was a real pain having to listen to it all day.

Installing the Trinity was a fairly major undertakiing, because you have to take out the motherboard. That is because the Trinity has a backplate which is mounted on the underside of the motherboard and which bolts through to secure the main cooler on the cpu side of the board.

I think it would be extremely unlikely that you could install this without removing the motherboard and, in my system, an Intel D945GNT system board mounted in an Acousticase AC 6607 case, this also involved taking out the hard drives and the psu.

In all it took me over three hours to install this cooler - although how long it takes will depend a lot on your particular system and how used you are to taking it all apart.

Howeever, having made the effort, it was definitely worthwhile.

The new cooler is virtually silent and it is wonderful not to have to spend all day listening to the Intel cooler fan whining away.

Monitoring showed that the Intel cooler fan was doing about 4800 rpm against the Trinity at typically 600 rpm or so - which accounts for why it is quieter; the bigger fan rotates more slowly to move the same volume of air. And, of course, it has a much bigger radiator, which I am sure helps.

The comfort levels around the machine have now inproved dramatically.

Also, the temperature levels seem good - I wasn’t monitoring them closely before I changed coolers, but the monitororing I’m doing now suggests that they are down on what they were before.

Also, excellent technical support and service from Quiet PC.

All in all, an excellent product and well worth the effort of installing it.”
